Peter Bainbridge

Peter, who was born in 1964 and trained as a landscape gardener, is self-taught and first began painting in 1994. Because of his interest in UK wildlife Peter’s early paintings were of birds and completed in watercolour. Changing to oil a few years later his paintings were well received.

Peter has sold his paintings at Christie’s and Sotheby’s wildlife auctions and exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London. He has also displayed his paintings at many country and game fairs throughout the UK and Europe.

In 2005 Peter won the Birdwatcher Magazine, Bird Artist of The Year competition.

One of Peter’s clients, an ex-jockey, asked him to paint some horses. Although a keen race goer it was a difficult subject he had stayed away from. However, Peter’s early equine paintings were well received, and this led to many commissions from jockeys, trainers and owners. Peter has exhibited at the Cheltenham Festival as well as several other racecourses around the country. He was invited to the prestigious Coolmore Stud in Ireland and has a painting in their collection. Peter works closely with the Moore family at Gary Moore’s Cisswood racing stable in Sussex and is an Associate Member of The Society of Equestrian Artists.

Peter now paints both Wildlife and Equine subjects and travels widely around the UK gaining inspiration for his work.
